About

Ant Attack is a 1983 game for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. In it, you run around a 3D map of the city, Antescher. Being isometric 3D proved something of a wonder, and the map was quite large, and stored in memory...

...which meant I could get the data!

In addition to building a VR concept for Ant Attack I also gathered together some LEGO to build a block-by-block replica of the entire world. The finished version was over 1 meter square.

The world of Antescher.

I had no plastic ants to crawl around the level, so this spider will have to do!

The entrance, where every game begins.

I did not have enough base plates of a consistent colour, so I created a patchwork with as much stylistic integrity as I could manage.

There is a lot of extra detail to the models, created by replaced standard bricks with something more available^Hinteresting.

This is also there in the original, "hidden" in the top left of the map.
