I was at a London 2600 meet several years ago and the topic of Xerox Parc came up. (They were the guys that invented many things, including the Windowing environment that both Apple and Microsoft used in their operating environments.) One random fact that popped into my head was the realization that all the monitors they used were A4 in size, and positioned vertically. i.e. in portrait mode.
Nowdays, many people have monitors that can swivle to support either orientation. Back then, it was fixed.
It was then that Bob and I had the idea to build a web page (also a fairly new idea!) that was oriented correctly for those that used a portrait monitor.
