With so many books, articles, and lectures, there is no simple 'one-size-fits-all' biography! So, wherever I am, the organizers pick one of the following...

In education

Steven Goodwin (London, England) has been promoting games and technology in education since the early days of Future Content. He's worked with schools, companies, designers, and producers to ensure the best technology solutions are found to provide a true pedagogical solution. In addition to his own CTO duties, he also advises other CEOs and CTOs in matters of strategy and development.

In addition to his work as a mentor at ed-invent, he regularly lectures at universities to encourage students into the industry, explaining the real-life situations they will face, and how to solve them. He's also worked as an Associate Lecturer residency at both Bedfordshire University helping students work towards their B.U.G.S. projects, and Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

As a technologist

Steven Goodwin (London, England) has been involved in computing, science, and technology from an early age, building his first synthesizer while still in his teens.

As a systems architect he's designed and built global systems for Unilever, Microsoft, Playfish, and Third Space Learning using a wide range of languages and technologies. He's also highly experienced on the small scale, with work on the iPhone, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi, as well as running teams of between 1 and 30 people.

His position as an industry thought leader in technology implementations includes being a mentor at ed-invent, a start-up consultant, and a futurist. He has given talks around the world on topics as diverse as home automation, HTML5, game development, and quantum superpositions.

As a games developer

Steven Goodwin (London, England) is a veteran developer of the games industry with a career stretching back to 1994, in both development and management roles. As well as published boxed games for PC and consoles , he has released many online and mobile products. This includes Grand Prix Manager, the #1 selling game Die Hard: Vendetta, Project Gotham Racing on mobile, and Facebook games such as Pet Society and Restaurant City.

As an international speaker and author he has written three industry-standard textbooks for the games industry "Cross-Platform Game Programming", "The Game Developer's Open Source Handbook" for Charles River Media and "Polished Game Development" for Apress, as well as two editions of "Smart Home Automation with Linux" for Apress, along with 60+ articles covering programming, management, and open source. A fan of retro computing, he is also a tech historian, volunteer at the Centre for Computing History, and author of "20 GOTO 10".

He's also worked as an Associate Lecturer residency at both Bedfordshire University helping students work towards their B.U.G.S. projects, and Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

His interests outside of computers, also involve computers!

As an Open Source advocate

Since 1999 Steven Goodwin (London, England) has been professionally involved in both the community and development environment for Linux, Free Software and Open Source. His first articles in Linux Magazine in 2001 began a long partnership where he brought the C programming language to the newsstand, demonstrated home automation, and uncovered command line power tools. He was also an "Open Source Champ" at Microsoft where he pioneered the use and advocacy of FLOSS in a (traditionally) closed environment.

As a speaker and commentator he has spoken at many major national, and international, conferences such as UKUUG and FOSDEM as well as writing the annual 'FOSDEM diaries' and gave the closing keynote at the 20th Anniversary FOSDEM event.

As a communications consultant

Steven Goodwin (London, England) has been involved in computing, science, and technology from an early age, writing his first code when 8 and building his first synthesizer while still in his teens. Since then he's grown up (apparently!) to become a CTO and systems architect who has designed and built global systems for Unilever, Microsoft, Playfish, and Third Space Learning, using a wide range of languages and technologies.

He's also highly experienced working at a small scale, with innovative work on the iPhone, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi in the communication, IoT, and home automation space.

His position as an industry thought leader includes 60+ articles, 6 books, and work as a start-up consultant, futurist, and mentor. As a speaker and commentator he has spoken at many major national, and international, conferences around the world on topics as diverse as WebRTC, HTML5, game development, and quantum superpositions.
